3 of the 100 venues in The World’s 100 Best Botanical Gardens 2026 are in the Caribbean, in 3 countries. The highest placed is Hunte’s Gardens in Saint Joseph, Barbados, at number 17 in the world. Jardin Botanique de Deshaies in Deshaies, Guadeloupe (number 45) and Jardin de Balata in Fort-de-France, Martinique (number 84) follow.
Three island gardens
Hunte’s Gardens in Barbados is planted in a collapsed cave sinkhole of about two acres, with stepped paths that wind down through dense foliage. The Jardin Botanique de Deshaies on Guadeloupe follows a marked path past waterfalls, koi ponds and a walk-in lorikeet enclosure, with views of the sea. At the Jardin de Balata, in the hills above Fort-de-France on Martinique, suspension bridges cross the tree canopy and hummingbirds feed by the Creole house at the entrance. Each visit takes up to two hours.
