Cake by the slice

The Brazilian shops on the list sell cake first. A display holds whole cakes, the customer picks a slice, and the same cakes are ordered whole for birthdays. Doceria Mãos de Fada in central Sorocaba is a family-run shop with a few tables. Its cakes include brigadeiro cakes, named after the Brazilian sweet of condensed milk and chocolate, and a casadinho cake. Orders go by phone or WhatsApp, delivery runs through the shop's own courier or iFood, and there is no printed menu, so prices have to be asked.

São Paulo imports

São Paulo has two shops in imported styles. Tartelier Patisserie in the Saúde neighbourhood assembles its mille-feuille to order with vanilla, pistachio or dulce de leche cream. Orders and payment go through a kiosk, and the pastry is served on paper trays at pavement tables. Vivianne Wakuda Confeitaria in Pinheiros makes yogashi, the Japanese name for Western-style sweets, and choux buns with miso caramel, matcha or yuzu fillings lead its menu. The shop is a house with paintings, bookshelves and an outdoor deck with cushion seating, and it opens at noon.
