The Best Breweries in Canada

Quebec breweries

Three of the breweries are in Quebec. Messorem in Montreal runs a taproom with a large outdoor patio beside the Lachine Canal, and pours around 30 taps, mostly IPAs and hazy NEIPAs. Kahnawake Brewing Company, a microbrewery and pub on Montreal's South Shore, offers a wide rotating selection and pub food. Brasserie Dieu du Ciel! in Saint-Jérôme brews its own beers, from fruity sours to bitter IPAs, and serves burgers, poutine and nachos.

British Columbia breweries

Superflux Beer Company is a craft brewery and taproom in East Vancouver, known mostly for hazy IPAs and the Heavy Fruit series. Backcountry Brewing in Squamish has a taproom that serves house beers and wood-fired pizza. Its hazy IPAs, sours and playfully named beers are among its best-known offerings.

Halifax and Barrie

Alexander Keith's runs a historic brewery tour in a downtown Halifax building. Guides cover the brewing process, the company's history and Halifax stories, and the tour ends with beer samples and live music in the pub. Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery operates a taproom on downtown Barrie's main street, with about 16 to 20 house beers on tap and seltzers. Its decor of posters, chandeliers and neon draws attention, and it hosts live music in the evenings.
