Both caves here are wet, and visitors get soaked. At Actun Tunichil Muknal near San Ignacio in Belize a licensed guide leads groups on a jungle walk with three river crossings and a swim into the entrance, to Maya pottery and skeletons that lie where they were left. Cameras and phones are banned, and shoes come off in the chamber, so socks are needed. Cavernas de Venado in Costa Rica is a two-hour wade and crawl along an underground stream, with showers on site afterwards.
