Opera houses

Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires opened in 1908 and has a horseshoe-shaped auditorium, with opera, ballet and concerts on its programme, and guided tours show the Golden Hall. Teatro Amazonas in Manaus, Brazil, is a neoclassical opera house built during the rubber boom with materials shipped from Europe.

Squares

Bolívar Square in Maracay holds an equestrian statue of Simón Bolívar, gazebos and fountains, and visitors sit under the trees and photograph the Sindoni Tower. The Plaza de Armas in Trujillo, Peru, is surrounded by colonial buildings and has a Monument to Liberty at its center, with the cathedral across from it. The Plaza de Armas in Cusco, Peru, is bordered by colonial stone churches, carved wooden balconies and arcades, and at night visitors see the lit mountains above the city.

Monuments and bridges

The National Flag Monument in Rosario stands on the riverbank, with a statue of Belgrano at the top and an elevator to a viewpoint over the river and the city. The Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge in Brasília has three asymmetrical arches over Lake Paranoá and links the Plano Piloto to Lago Sul. Christ the Redeemer stands on Corcovado Mountain above Rio de Janeiro, and from the top visitors look over the city, beaches and Guanabara Bay.
